The Best Coffee Shops in Nottingham | Part 1

Is all that studying making you thirsty? Say no more, in this blog post we share our recommendations for some of the best coffee spots in Nottingham for you to enjoy.

Lola’s Coffee

You need only roll out of bed and head downstairs for your first hit of caffeine with this coffee establishment. Lola’s Coffee is situated in the lobby at Nottingham Hylyfe and and has been serving residents and locals since summer 2023. This cool and contemporary space not only offers great food and beverages, but they has amazing deals available if you keep a look out on their socials and they provide free Wi-Fi with no restrictions on using your laptop. If you need a break from studying in your apartment, you can change up your environment without having to go too far; just hop downstairs for a drink and a bite.

Effy

One of the most stylish places to grab a coffee in Nottingham is Effy, located on Heathcote Street in the heart of Hockley. Following a site move and a re-brand in 2023, Effy has cemented itself as the trendiest place to enjoy a seriously good coffee. With their Instagram-able presentation and quirky but delicious baked goods, this is worth the 8-minute stroll into the city centre. You could easily waste the day wandering around this buzzing and vibrant area with plenty of bars, restaurants and independent shops to enjoy; some have described Hockley as the ‘Soho of Nottingham’.

200 Degrees 

The brand which has become synonymous with Nottingham, 200 Degrees absolutely exploded onto the scene in 2012 and have since sold their coffee in numerous cafes, pop ups and online, not to mention their successful stand-alone shops. One such shop can be found in an old Victorian railway hotel on Carrington Street just a few minutes’ walk from Hylyfe Nottingham and Nottingham train station. Alternatively, if you’re looking to hit the high street, you can pick up your cup of Joe from the flagship shop in the Flying Horse Walk just off the Old Market Square. These guys are so committed to coffee that they run barista training courses for budding coffee artists!

Hungry Pumpkin

Only a short walk up the road from Hylyfe Nottingham, past the beautiful architecture of the Lace Market and across the street from the Grade I listed St Mary’s Church, sits Hungry Pumpkin. An independent, family-run café, this is a hugely popular spot for those in the know as it’s a little off the beaten track if you aren’t familiar with the area. Serving Italian coffee, not to mention delicious breakfast and lunch options, you can take in one of the most scenic areas of the city with a warm glow and a full tummy.

Blend 

No wonder there are numerous locations when the coffee is this good. Whether you fancy a beverage close to the business district at East West or feel the need for hydration whilst taking in some of the city’s best art at Nottingham Contemporary, Blend has you covered. Servicing the executives and creatives of Nottingham, Blend partners with coffee roasters, Stewarts of Trent Bridge, which is also available to buy should you want to recreate the Blend experience from your apartment.
