If you need a decent coffee to start the day, are looking for somewhere to hit the books, or just want somewhere nice to catch up with a friend we’ve compiled a list of coffee shops in Leicester that we recommend checking out.
The charmingly named, Bread and Honey, has a reputation for serving some of the best coffee in the midlands. The coffee of choice is Monmouth, a company who started roasting beans out of Covent Garden in 1978 and who have a taste for excellence. This cosy corner of Leicester with its rich, deep red façade, is the perfect place to enjoy a drink with friends and less than a 15-minute walk from Hylyfe’s Vanquish Mill development.
Not only do this company have a wonderfully comfortable and atmospheric shop in a historic building on Granby Street but they also sell their in-house roasted coffee in store and on their website. This is a great spot for local artists to enjoy a drink and freshly baked cake as the owners encourage you to present your artwork on their walls. It’s worth the 13-minute walk into the city centre.

A super stylish place to pick up your morning coffee but you might be easily enticed to stay for the excellent brunch and evening cocktails. Located in St Martin’s Square, this contemporary yet exotic establishment, with its ceiling full of hanging foliage and friendly staff, is less than 10-minutes’ walk from your apartment and somewhere you could easily wile away your whole day. Don’t forget that students get 10% off with valid student ID!
Offering coffee, sandwiches and Ukrainian cakes, 5 Coats is a welcoming and well-stocked café only 8 minutes’ walk from Vanquish Mill. Having opened in 2024, the café offers coffee masterclasses as well as events for creatives and gorgeous décor. The café is so named because of the five different sandwiches they have available so don’t hesitate to nip in for some grub and a great coffee.

Proudly serving speciality coffee by Bamboo Coffee Roasters, Orso is an independent coffee shop which has been a popular space in Leicester for six years. In the heart of the city centre and only a 10-minute walk from Vanquish Mill, you will want to stay for brunch once you see their delicious menu. They’re also super dog friendly so if you appreciate a pooch enjoying a puppuccino, you’ll love the atmosphere and friendly welcome at Orso.
